BATU NIAH: A badly decomposed body was found at an oil palm plantation estate located about 90km from the city, on Thursday (June 7) morning.
It is understood that the discovery was made around 8.30am by one of the estate’s workers who later informed his supervisor.
Prior to the discovery, the worker was on his way to the area to plug oil palm fruits.
Upon approaching the area, there was an odd smell in the air that later prompted him to search for the source.
He went a little deeper into the area and found the body.
A team of police from BatuNiah and Miri were mobilised to the scene upon receiving an alert on the discovery.
Miri police chief, ACP Lim Meng Seah confirmed on the discovery when contacted yesterday.
“The body has been sent to Miri Hospital morgue for a post mortem,” he said.
The deceased’s wife made a positive identification of the body and confirmed it as that of her 43 year-old husband (Indonesian), based on his belongings found at the scene.
According to the deceased’s family members, the last time they saw him was on Friday the week before.
The body was found next to his motorcycle.
All of his belongingswere left intact including his motorcycle.
The case has been classified as sudden death.
