LEGENDARY Malaysian rock band XPDC recently expressed its frustration over the act of some irresponsible parties taking advantage of late vocalist Mael’s passing to make profit.

Band manager Yazid shared that there had been several instances of people selling counterfeit items bearing the XPDC name and logo, as well as Tribute to Legend Mael XPDC shirts.

Mael, real name Syed Ismail Syed Ibrahim, passed away on April 27. He was 56.

“They copied the design of the shirt, the album cover, etc and sell it to unknowing fans. They even sold it at the same price as the original items. The difference is that we sold this merchandise with the permission of Mael’s family.

“A percentage of the profit from the sale of merchandise will be for Mael’s family as well, as they can use the money to fund a tahlil and even pay for the singer’s tombstone. It can also be donated somewhere else under Mael’s name.

“We have already warned these people. Mael’s brother Syed Ali is also condemning the counterfeiters’ act. It will not benefit the family at all. That’s what we are trying to avoid,” he said.

As of now, Yazid stated that they are in discussion on what to do next. “We may make a police report, bring this to MCMC or ask TikTok to block these accounts. They can’t be allowed to run rampant. The rights of XPDC must be protected,” he added.
