ROBAN: Every village and longhouse in the Kalaka state constituency has been urged to organise regular blood donation programmes to ensure sufficient supply in the government hospital here.

Assemblyman Mohamad Duri who made the call said donating blood could also bring humanity together.

“When we donate blood, it reminds us that everyone is the same – showing cultural and social differences are not factors in dealing with emergencies, especially those involving medical care.

“By donating blood, we can save lives regardless of religion, culture and can also be considered a charitable deed.

“Thus, I encourage the Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK) to take turns holding blood donation programmes.

“Perhaps it can be organised monthly or twice a month, and my service centre will help collaborate between the JKKK and the hospital,” he said.

He said this after inspecting blood donation campaign activities at the Kampung Melayu Roban Futsal Stadium organised by Edisi Kalaka Saratok in collaboration with the Saratok Hospital Blood Bank Unit, today.

The session successfully collected 12 pints of blood.

Saratok Hospital expects this effort to continue to meet the needs of patients.

“This is due to the need for blood increasing by five per cent every year in line with population growth and medical development.

“The matter was explained by the Deputy Director (Medicine) at Sarawak General Hospital Dr Hayati Ja’afar last June,” he said.
