Young human capital with skills key to country

MIRI: Human capital development among the young generation is key to the country’s ability to face the growing competition in the global economy.

The Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) quoted state Transport Minister Datuk Sri Lee Kim Shin as saying progress cannot be achieved without knowledgeable and skilled human capital.

“The young generation is the most important asset in the development of a country.

“Therefore, education is the key to human civilisation and the progress of a country,” he said.

He was speaking during the presentation of education funds to Pei Min Private Middle School, Riam Road Private Middle School as well as educational assistance for Chinese students from needy families here on Saturday.

Lee who is Senadin assemblyman added that an excellent education system is also important to produce a high quality, skilled and knowledgeable as well as creative and innovative workforce in the future.

“Skilled workforce is very much needed by industry and our country.

“Therefore, the current education system also needs to be relevant in order to meet the needs of the country’s workforce in the service and industrial sectors.

“This is in line with our government’s desire to produce a skilled workforce that is truly competent in line with the needs of industry,” he added.

During the event , a total of 11 primary schools and 14 secondary schools involving 288 students received education funds.

The primary schools involved are SJK (C) Chung Hua Miri, SJK (C) Chung Hua Krokop Miri, SJK (C) Chung Hua Pujut Miri, SJK (C) Chung Hua Lutong Miri, SJK (C) Chung Hua Tudan Miri, SJK (C) Chung San Miri, SJK Tukau Miri, SJK Chung Hua Bakam, SJK Miri Utara, Sekolah Kebangsaan St Columba and Sekolah Kebangsaan St Joseph.

Meanwhile the secondary schools are SMK Chung Hua Miri, SMK St Columba, SM Pei Min, SM Riam Miri, SMK St Joseph, SMK Lutong, SMK Pujut, SMK Riam, SMK Luak, SMK Dato Permaisuri, SMK Baru, SMK Lopeng Tengah, SMK Merbau and SMK Taman Tunku.
