A total of three youth camps, namely Kem Belia Pueh, Kem Belia Kemuyang and Kem Belia Mukah in the state will be upgraded and enhanced under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP).
Minister of Youth, Sport and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said upgrading works on Kem Belia Pueh is expected to complete by yearend.
“The tendering exercise for Kem Belia Mukah and Kem Belia Kemuyang will be done in early January next year.
“The upgrading projects of the youth camps are in line with the ministry’s mission to provide, nurture and execute a holistic youth development programme,” he said when delivering his winding-up speech in the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) yesterday (Nov 30).
He said the objective of Youth Camps is to provide a venue for organising activities and programmes to build up a generation of youth that is confident, and cultivating the spirit of unity and determination to encounter challenges in life.
“Apart from that, it is also to inculcate a sense of togetherness and close rapport among youth from various social and racial backgrounds.
“Since the opening of the three youth camps (1997), it has benefitted schools, higher learning institutions, government departments and agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), private entities and the public,” he said.
For the record, from 2020 to October 2022, the three youth camps have accepted 4,295 participants.
Said Abdul Karim: “The camp is charging minimal fees for participants to provide an affordable rate to encourage and promote the facilities for public usage.
“To ensure that the youth camps will continue to attract participants, my ministry has included the upgrading works of new Zip Tower inclusive of flying fox and wall climbing, outdoor educational activities apart from existing outdoor activities, such as kayaking and jungle trekking,” he said.
