KAPIT: The youths have high hopes in Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and want the leaders to further develop Kapit, especially in the rural areas.

Yesterday, New Sarawak Tribune managed to speak to some of the people in Kapit town.

Fina Barat, 34, a vendor, said she wanted to see a proper market spot in place for people to do their business.

“The economy is very bad now, plus we don’t have a suitable place to sell things. At the moment, we are selling at a small spot provided by the Kapit District Council here,” she said.

Fina also hoped that with a proper place, more community members could set up their business and benefit from it.

“I also want the GPS government to provide more basic infrastructure such as electricity on road sides,” she said.

Meanwhile, a teacher from Kapit, who is teaching at SK Tan Sri Jugah in Song, said he wished to see more parking spaces in Kapit town.

“When people from Sibu go to Kapit town, it will cause bad traffic congestion. That is why I hope the elected representatives in Kapit could look into this matter seriously,” said the 42-year-old Ambi Dalang.

He added that now it depended on the state government’s initiative to go to the ground to meet them, and ask them what were their needs and wants.

“I really hope they can bridge the gap between the urban and rural areas.”

A Form Five student from SMK Kapit No. 2, Rofina Matthew, said that she wished to see better development in the rural areas, especially at her longhouse, Rumah John Ramba of Kampung Sungai Sibau.

“I hope GPS could further develop Sarawak to be better than today, so that the future generations could benefit from the good economic growth.”
