KOTA SAMARAHAN: About 10,000 job seekers turned up for an open interview with 13,000 job opportunities up for grabs at the Sarawak State Level of 1Malaysia Training Scheme (SL1M) held in Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas), here.

The programme’s objective was to assist the unemployed graduates in getting employment to improve their economic standing as well as to gain the work experience.

The two-day programme starting yesterday is participated by over 100 companies from various fields and sectors.

Among the companies are Khazanah Nasional Berhad, Maybank, CIMB, Telekom Malaysia Berhad, Celcom Axiata Berhad, Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad, Petronas, Malaysia Airlines Berhad, TH Plantations Berhad, and others. 

The opening ceremony was graced by Minister of Youth, Sport and Solidarity Dato Sri Micheal Manyin Jawong who represented Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Abang Haji Openg with Vice-Chancellor of Unimas, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mohamad Kadim Suaidi also in attendance.

“Grab and utilise the opportunity wisely and don’t be to choosy about job,” said Johari as his speech was read by Manyin during the opening ceremony at Unimas yesterday.

Johari also said that SL1M programme is the best platform for unemployed and job seekers to find their job interest equivalent with their qualification.

“Local companies are also encouraged to join this programme as to assist the young generation as well as the state in economic development.

“Get out from the comfort zone and explore the work experience to improve your economy,” Johari pointed out.

SL1M Chief Secretary Norashikin Datuk Hj Ismail said, they will consider to prolong the duration of the event next year.

“The qualifications needed are from Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) until PhD level, and the event is held in weekdays as it is focused on the unemployed people,” she noted.

Up to December 2016, the programme has benefited 99,000 participants. Meanwhile,  up to date, a total of 280,000 unemployed graduates are recorded throughout Malaysia.

The programme was also enlivened with the appearance of Malaysia artistes Faizal Tahir and the famous comedian from reality show  “Maharaja Lawak Mega” Zero. Others activities such as career talk, booth sales, lucky draw and games and gifts were also held.

The programme starts at 7.00am and ends at 5.00pm. Unemployed and job seekers are encouraged to attend the programme. Today is the last day of the annual event.
