BRISBANE: Police in the Australian state of Queensland on Friday confirmed the death of two people after a collision between two light planes at an airfield.

Queensland police superintendent Paul Ready said at a press conference that at around 10.30 am local time on Friday, the collision of the two planes occurred at the eastern end of Caboolture Airfield, north of Brisbane, said Xinhua.

“At the moment, there are two deceased in a plane that was taking off on the eastern end. We are still trying to confirm who the two persons are,” said Ready. “The other person who was in the other aircraft is assisting police currently with the investigators trying to piece together what exactly occurred.”

Mark Ryan, Queensland minister for police, told reporters that the two planes collided “close to the ground”, which many people could have possibly witnessed, adding that the occupant of the other plane is relatively uninjured.
