KOTA SAMARAHAN: A total of 201 other ranks (OR) members from the 31st Infantry Brigade (31st Bgd) were promoted today.

The promotion ceremony was held during the Application of Rank of Other Ranks of the Border Regiment Parade here today.

Army chief General Tan Sri Zamrose Mohd Zain said the parade was held in conjunction with the restructuring of the Border Regiment Battalion to Standard Infantry Battalion which came into force on January 31 this year.

“The strengthening of the staffing is in line with my supreme order which is to strengthen the integrity of this sacred organisation,” he said when speaking at the parade at the Muara Tuang Camp, here.

The parade also witnessed the awarding of the National Sovereignty Medal (PKN) to 28 recipients comprising army officers.

There were four detachments in the parade involving a total of 15 officers and 201 members led by the Commanding Officer of the Sixth Battalion of the Border Regiment (6 RS) Lt-Col Tajul Hisham Mamat.

The parade was also accompanied by the Combined Band of the First Infantry Division Headquarters (1 Div) led by Drum Major Staff Sergeant Madzli Ibnu of the Fourth Regiment of the Royal Armored Corps (4 KAD).

Also present were East Field Command chief Lt-Gen Datuk Mardzuki Muhammad and First Division Infantry commander Major General Hassan Embong and other dignitaries.

The Border Regiment was established on January 12, 2008 to replace the Infantry Battalion Series 300 Territorial Army and strengthen and uphold the administrative and operational machinery of the army in preserving and defending the sovereignty of the country.
