210 Stakan residents receive festive goodies

KUCHING: A total of 210 recipients from the Chinese community in Stakan constituency here received mandarin oranges and red packets (angpow) from its assemblyman Datuk Hamzah Brahim.

During the presentation ceremony held at Jalan Muara Tuang Multipurpose Community Hall here on Thursday, Hamzah said the contribution were to enliven the upcoming Chinese New Year celebration.

“Chinese New Year celebration brings great meaning to its celebrants, which unites family members to celebrate the festival together.

“it is also the chance for the Chinese to meet their friends and strengthen the relationship between them,” he said in his speech.

With the distribution of red packets along with a box of mandarin oranges, he said it symbolised the harmony and prosperity of the Chinese community.

He also hoped to organise a more happening Chap Goh Mei celebration that could be attended by all residents in the Stakan constituency.

“We hope that for the upcoming Chap Goh Mei celebration, we can make it more happening and we can use school halls that can accommodate more people,” he said.

Among the Chinese community members who received the donation were Persatuan Masyarakat Cina Jalan Muara Tuang, residents of Sg.Jernang, residents of Stakan Cina Hilir; residents of Kuap, residents of Stakan Cina Hulu, residents of Penrissen Batu 14 as well as Unigarden  and Unicentral residents.

Meanwhile, during the event, Hamzah also contributed a total of 150 chairs for the usage of the community hall.
