29 Mukah Wushu athletes attend upgrading exercise

MUKAH: Twenty-nine 29 Mukah Wushu athletes attended the upgrading exercise and training camp conducted by the Sarawak Dragon-Lion Dance and Wushu Association (PTNSWS) and supported by the Sarawak Youth & Sports Department (JBS) held on 20 an 21  May at SRK Chong Boon here.

SRK Chong Boon principal Mr Kok Liang Teck enthused that the school had successfully established a Wushu development centre with Ho Ing Siong as coach with teacher in charge Ms Lee Yip Ching assisted by Ms Jee Moi Fong had attracted participation from students of diverse races and cultures, noting that out of the 29 students participating, 18 are Melanau and Malay while 11 are Chinese.

Meanwhile Mukah centre coach Ho Ing Siong said they are planning to participate in the coming Sarikei Inter-School Wushu Championship to be held on 8 and 9 June 2017 and also the 7th Borneo Cup International Wushu Championships 2017 to be held in Sibu from 22 to 24 July 2017.

The upgrading exercise in Mukah was conducted by PTNSWS Wushu Technical Chairman Calvin assisted by Vincent Thong & Chew Wui Yung. PTNSWS president Matthew Lee King Choon, PTNSWS treasurer Thomas Liu and PTNSWS advisor Chester Lim also attended and witnessed the event.  PTNSWS president Lee observed that the Mukah students had good potential and showed much enthusiasm.

He revealed that PTNSWS has active Dragon-Lion Dance & Wushu development centres in schools in Kuching, Kota Samarahan, Betong, Sarikei, Mukah, Sibu and Miri and boasts total participation of some 1200 school students in these development centres with the support of Sarawak Youth  and Sports Department & Education Department and he looks forward to support from the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth & Sports for its various national level coaching and judging course and international Dragon-Lion Dance  and Wushu events later this year.
