KUCHING: The Dayak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) organised the 6th series of its on-going homestay management operation workshop recently, involving 30 participants from Kapit.

The three-day workshop, which was held from May 3 to 5, highlighted the homestay concept, including its key components, government policies as well as skills, characteristics and attributes of a successful operator.

“The participants also learned about cultural, adventure and nature (CAN) products, marketing skills as well as effective communications such as greetings, hosting, digital marketing sales and tourism awareness and exposure to the industry,” DCCI said in a statement today.

“Our participants, mostly women from Kapit, found the course to be very useful, which helped them to further improve themselves on the relevant understanding of the course towards developing and prospecting their interests in tourism products,” it added.

The programme was financed by the Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment (MINTRED) under the Business Recovery Programme Covid-19.

Since the first workshop was held in Kapit about six years ago, a 57-door longhouse TR Richard, Sg. Amang in Kapit, has been certified and  accredited  by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture (MoTAC).

Meanwhile, another longhouse TR Andok, Ulu Yong in Kapit is in the process of being certified by MoTAC.

With Kapit having better road systems, linking more towns and Indonesia, DCCI is confident this will create more opportunities in the tourism industry in the division.

DCCI executive secretary Terence Temenggong Jayang and its capacity-building executive Eleanor Edward were among those present at the workshop.
