Family members and close friends mourn the loss of Abdul Ajis.

KUCHING: Former Balingian assemblyman Datuk Abdul Ajis Abdul Majeed was laid to rest at Raudhatul Sakinah Cemetery in Samariang here today.

The passing of Abdul Ajis, 73, was felt especially among family members and close friends.

Sadness filled the air and family members wept while listening to the reading of the ‘talqin’ and prayers to the departed during the funeral ceremony, which ended at 1 pm.

The late Abdul Ajis was a respected individual in Mukah due to his humble nature and caring demeanour towards his people.

Throughout his time as an assemblyman, Abdul Ajis always had the interests of the people, prioritising areas of development, education and economy.

Abdul Ajis was also a secretary of the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) and a businessman.

He breathed his last at the Sarawak Heart Centre, Kota Samarahan, at around 3.33 am today due to heart complications.

Abdul Ajis served as the Balingian assemblyman for three terms, from 1987 to 2001 before being succeeded by the late Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.

He left behind his wife, Daling Suut and four children, three girls and a son.
