SERIAN: The local Parish Pastoral Council recently held a dialogue with some 300 leaders of the Village Chapel Committee (KGK), Basic Christian Community (BCC) and lay organisations under the jurisdiction of the St Theresa’s Parish here.
The dialogue was aimed at fostering better understanding of the Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) and its lay organisations.
The participants were enlightened on the activities of the parish next year, the various church definitions, and their functions.
Among those who attended the dialogue session were Rector Reverend Father Paul Herry, PPC chairman Dennis Sung, vice chairman Anthony Taguk, secretary Wilson Banyui treasurer Simon Yong, liturgy chairman Willington Sabang, publicity officer Joseph Then, special function committee chairman Dennis Edwin, F&B in-charge Marianne Lai, and ordinary PPC members.
In his opening address after a prayer of blessing by Father Paul, Sung told the attendees that the dialogue was to impart knowledge to the leaders so as to equip them to face present-day challenges.
He expressed gratitude to those who helped during the yearly Feast of St. Theresa, the only annual fundraising event of the PPC.
“The participation instills in us a sense that we are the church, one church and one heart,” he said.
Dennis said that many proposed projects had been completed this year especially the video and audio systems of the main church as well as the general rectification of the water piping system and toilet facilities.
Among the pending projects are: Rectification of the cracked and sinking apron around the main church, a permanent shed in front of Mother Mary’s grotto, replacement of the main church benches, up-grading of the toilets facilities, reconstruction of the main church’s fence, the parish pastoral signboard and repainting of the main church.
The PPC also gave assistance in kind to the deserving village churches to help them do upgrading or repair works.
