MIRI: The Miri City Council (MCC) enforcement team has removed a total of 418 illegal advertisements around the city this month.

These illegal advertisements include unauthorised posters and stickers in public spaces.

MCC, in a statement yesterday (Monday), advised those responsible to cease the illegal practice in light of the heavy penalties imposed by the laws.

“Miri City Council will not hesitate to take legal action to owners (of the illegal advertisements) as they affect the image and scenery of Miri City,” it said in a statement.

Under the Local Authorities (Advertisements) By-laws 2012, any person who contravenes any provisions of the By-laws or conditions imposed on the licence faces a fine not exceeding RM5,000 and imprisonment not exceeding six months. There is a further fine not exceeding RM200 for each day the offence is continued.
