45 foreigners picked up for working without permits

The ‘Ops Selera’ and ‘Ops Kutip’ conducted by Kuching Immigration Enforcement Unit around Tabuan and Satok, resulting in the arrest of 45 individuals of various foreign nationalities.

KUCHING: Forty-five individuals of various foreign nationalities have been arrested for working at eateries without valid documents yesterday (Apr 23).

Acting on complaints and intelligence gathering, the district’s Immigration Enforcement Unit conducted ‘Ops Selera’ and ‘Ops Kutip’ at four locations around Tabuan and Satok.

The Sarawak Immigration Department said the unit inspected 59 individuals for their documentations.

From the figure, 45 were taken into custody for committing various offences such as overstaying and lacking valid work permits.

The case is being investigated under Section 6(1)(C) and Section 15(1)(C) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, as well as Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963.

The public is advised to report the presence of undocumented migrants in their areas through online channels or directly to the nearest Immigration Enforcement Office.
