69 longhouses in lockdown receive food aid

Distribution of aid to residents in three longhouses in Ulu Segan who are isolated due to floods.

BINTULU:  A total of 69 longhouses involving 1,043 residents within the Kakus constituency received food assistance on January 21 and 22 following a sudden lockdown imposed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

On Friday, four longhouses involving 480 residents received food assistance via the Sarawakku Sayang programme.

Those four longhouses were Rumah Gansau, Sungai Arip; Rumah William Badi, Ulu Arip; Rumah Kechendai , Kepayang Jaya; and Rumah Lunin.

The food aid was presented by Pemancha Gerosen Jubin and Penghulu Alister Alli Digat on behalf of the programme.

Meanwhile, Tuai Rumah Janting Bajieng when met later after the presentation, expressed his gratitude to the state government for supplying the food items to the rural villagers.

“Thank you for the assistance given, it really means a lot to us in the rural areas,” he said.

Among items supplied were instant noodles, instant drinks, biscuits, sugar and disinfectants.

The food baskets delivery and distributions were supervised by the N60 Kakus Service Centre.

More than 20 volunteers from the Kakus N60 Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Service Centre led by Eugene John Sikie using nine 4-wheel drive (4WD) vehicles were involved in the delivery.

Also involved were the Tarau district office and Tatau Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba).
