MIRI: Seven women who lost their way during a waterfall hike at Giam Waterfall in Bakam on Sunday (Oct 22) are safe and sound.
According to the Miri Fire and Rescue Department, all victims aged between 29 and 31 were found around 8.40 pm later that evening.
The victims are Katherine Arri Kim Lian, Ainaa Shahira Rasidi, Nur Emilya Brahim, Chiong Mei Mei, Arina Sazari, Surinini Osman and Normalia Wahap. The ladies had earlier gone hiking to Giam Waterfall but later realised they were lost along the way.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Operation Centre received a distress call from the victims’ at 3.20 pm on Sunday.
A search and rescue operation (SAR) team comprising the Miri Sentral fire station, police and villagers from the surrounding areas was formed and mobilised to the scene to locate the victims.
The rescuers found three vehicles belonging to the victims at the entrance of the waterfall and upon searching further, managed to locate the victims.
