7,400 Raya cakes packets given out

KUCHING: An overall total of 7,400 packets of Raya cakes were prepared and given out to security and enforcement personnel as well as other officials from eight government departments and agencies.

Out of that 450 packets of the ‘kuih raya’ were distributed to personnel from the State Prisons Department and state Road Transport Department (JPJ) yesterday.

This was done conjunction with the upcoming Raya celebrations and was especially for those who will be working during the public holidays.

When presenting the items Minister of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family, and Childhood Development Datuk Hajah Fatimah Abdullah said that 262 people from nine agencies and 14 non-governmental organisations (NGOs) took part in packaging the ‘kuih raya’.

“This was a fun experience for us and we enjoyed it as it was done in an environment that was happy and positive.

“All of us worked together and it was for a good cause as it’s not just the biscuits and cakes that went into the box, but also our love and prayers,” she said.

Fatimah said this during a handing-over ceremony which was held at the State Prisons Department at Jalan Puncak Borneo here yesterday.

The minister also expressed her appreciation to the security and enforcement personnel who have to work during public holidays; especially those  celebrants who are aren’t able to go home to be with their loved ones.

“Today’s event is just to show the appreciation of the state government as well as the people towards those who help to maintain the peace and security in the state.

“Regardless of the time or day, weather, or whether or not it’s a public holiday, they keep on working because anything can happen.

“For that, I just want to say thank you from all of us,” said Fatimah.

Out of the 450 packets, 300 were for the State Prisons Department and 150 were for the state JPJ.

“Overall, 7,400 packets were prepared for not just the two departments, but six other enforcement agencies and departments as well,” she pointed out.

The six other departments and agencies are the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), state Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), state Immigration Department, and the state Customs Department.

Also present during the event were Prisons deputy commissioner Ajidin Salleh who is also State Prisons Department director, state JPJ director Mohd Syafiq Anas Abdullah, Assistant Minister of Community Wellbeing Datuk Francis Harden Hollis, and state Women and Family Department (JWKS) director Noriah Ahmad.
