SIBU: When they are in school, students and pupils are advised to report any teacher found violating the Covid-19 standard operating procedure (SOP) guidelines.
Education, Science and Technological Research Assistant Minister Dr Annuar Rapaee in urging this, said he had met with Sibu district education officer Ahli Chikba to discuss the matter.
“I admit that many cases have occurred in schools, especially in Sibu, which have created another cluster involving a religious primary school (Sekolah Rendah Agama) in Jalan Disa, namely the Jalan Disa Cluster.
“This is because some teachers do not adhere to the SOPs during teaching time.
“I have informed (Ahli Chikba) to allow pupils or students to record the names of teachers who do not wear face masks while teaching. This list is to be submitted to the headmaster or principal,” he said on Saturday night.
The Local Government and Housing Assistant Minister said he himself had also found there were teachers not wearing their face masks while conducting lessons in the classroom.
“I take this matter seriously, so I instruct the district education office to do so for us to stop the spread of this Covid-19 in schools.
“We hope that students can help us do so and comply with the SOPs that have been set,” said the Sibu Divisional Disaster Management Committee (SDDMC) coordinator.
Regarding the closure of schools in Sibu, he said he personally wanted all schools in Sibu to be closed.
He said SDDMC had submitted the closure proposal which is yet to be decided by the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).
“Because of that, I have asked all headmasters and school principals in Sibu to sign the application letter for SDMC to consider our application.
“We hope SDMC will do something about it and consider the risks we face at the moment,” he said.
