BINTULU: A civic-minded individual handed over a six-kilogram pangolin together with its pangopup (a pangolin baby) to the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) Bintulu Regional Office representative yesterday.

The pangolin and its baby were rescued by the individual when he sighted them on his way to work near Batu 4 Road, Bintulu-Miri.

“Our Enforcement and Protection Section chief received the pangolins and then released them to their original habitat,” it said.

The custodian of national parks and wildlife in Sarawak thanked the individual for his noble act.

“The gentleman’s employer is fortunate to have an employee who has a high level of awareness on the importance of efforts to protect endangered and protected wildlife in the state,” it said.

On a separate occasion, the SFC office here initiated a discussion with Malaysia LNG Sdn Bhd (MLNG) on the issue of crocodile sightings at MLNG Bintulu premises.

The discussion was chaired by Bintulu SFC acting regional manager accompanied by the head of Enforcement and Protection Section together with two wildlife rangers while MLNG was represented by its head of Environmental Management and a technician.

“Among the matters discussed were the proper rescue operation methods, including the safe and proper way to remove the crocodile.
