GE14, historic moment for Malaysians

KUCHING: The 14th General Election (GE14) result this time has created another historical moment for the country.

With the result, majority seats in the parliament were taken by the Pakatan Harapan (PH).

When met with the public on their comments about the election result, 66-year-old pensioner, Nohan Jahet congratulated PH on winning the hearts and minds of rakyat Malaysia to come out victorious and thus winning the GE14.

“This is a historic moment in the Malaysian political landscape. Who could have imagined that BN which had governed Malaysia for 60 years would be overthrown especially after offering so much promises to the rakyat during their campaign?

“We hope that the new PH government will perform according their manifesto to work towards a peaceful progressive and successful Malaysian nation in which all will have equal opportunities in all fields,” he pointed out.

He also congratulated Tun Mahathir and all who stood by him.

“Congratulations to all rakyat Malaysia whether you are Malay, Chinese, Indian, Dayaks Iban, Kadazan, Orang Ulu – you have spoken loud and clear through the ballot box you dare to embrace change.

“And yes the just concluded GE14 is all about change – a change for a better future for all Malaysians!,” he emphasised.

Meanwhile, Teo Fang Yiang, 39-year-old teacher at a local school here said that he personally thinks that the GE14 this time, the people were beginning to mature in politics and the people already know that the power over the years cannot be wasted this time.

“Hence, the election outcome is in fact pointing to the voices and hearts of loyalists and voters who want drastic changes to address the increasingly uncontrolled current and social issues such as cost-effect scandals, volatile oil prices and others.

“It is hoped that this new change will allow the state government party to work harder and realise the past or long-term promises of GE such as hospital construction, roads, building public facilities, resolving NCR issues and other,” he stressed.

Wee Li Fang, a sales administrator in a local company here wished to congratulate the new government.

“And since Malaysia has already voted you, we hope the new government will serve us better and hear our voices.

“Do your best and all the best so that you can serve us better and also hope that all the promises will be fulfilled,” she said.
