Four water tanks to solve Miri’s woes

MIRI: Bintulu and Sibu are to send two water tanks each to Miri while waiting for the supply in the division here is back to normal after the interruption is resolved.

The Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) is making this arrangement as Miri is facing water supply disruption that affects 65,000 households due to a broken pipe at Mile 7 of Miri-Bintulu Road.

During a press conference today, Minister of Transport Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin said that seven water collection centres are being set up for the affected residents.

The Miri Resident’s Office is also coordinating the schedule for water delivery services via water tankers, the Senadin assemblyman told reporters.

“We’re inviting private contractors and companies with water tankers to come forward and assist us in distributing water to the affected areas,” said Lee.

He announced during the media conference that the collection point venues are at the Lambir Water Treatment Plant (24 hours), Miri Sentral bypass, Airport Commercial Centre, and Milea Residence at Eastwood Industries with all four operating from six in the morning to twelve midnight.

Other water tankers collecting points will be at Taman Bulatan, Miri Indoor Stadium, Giant Permyjaya, Ah Hong Tudan, Desa Murni shop lot, Jumbo Senadin, and New World Mart in Lutong, he added.

“Even though this time the crisis is particularly difficult, LAKU Management Sdn Bhd is attempting to repair the broken pipe with the help of engineers from the Miri City Council (MCC),” he assured.

According to him, the 1100mm diameter broken pipe that occurred yesterday is expecting 36 hours of repair work.

Miri mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang, Miri Resident Mohd Abdul Aziz Yusof, and LAKU Management chief executive officer Daniel Punang were also present at the press conference.
