KUCHING: Sarawak Day is a day for Sarawakians to be proud of and to cherish together, said Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Talib Zulpilip.

He told New Sarawak Tribune yesterday that although the state had progressed tremendously, there was still more that needed to be done.

“Under the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government led by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, there will be more policies and development that we can achieve,” he said.

“But more can be done if our share of the federal budget is fair and balanced.

“We have in the election manifesto of the current Pakatan Harapan government the measures they would implement to enhance true federalism.

“I hope they will be implemented without any more delay,” said Talib.

Sibuti MP Lukanisman Awang Sauni, meanwhile, wanted Sarawak Day celebration on July 22 to be inserted in the history textbooks of the national education syllabus.

“By doing this, young Sarawakians can learn about the history that was forgotten all this while,” Lukanisman said when contacted yesterday.

“This is crucial and I hope the suggestion gets the support that it needed. There should be a mention of Sarawak Day in the history syllabus.

Lukanisman also said that Sarawak Day should motivate Sarawakians to be more vocal on their rights that had been eroded.
