KUCHING: A total of 150 young rubber trees from the Hevea Brasiliensis species were planted in Jalan Sultan Tengah roundabout, yesterday.

Assistant Minister of Public Utilities (Electrical and Telecommunication), Dr. Abdul Rahman Junaidi said that the rubber trees will help add to the greens in Jalan Sultan Tengah, inline with the Kuching South City Commission’s (DBKU) Clean, Beautiful and Safe (CBS) initiative.

“Preserving nature is everyone’s responsibility and by planting trees, we can instil awareness and interest of the people towards preserving the environment,” said Rahman.

He spoke during the Beautification Programme of Jalan Sultan Tengah roundabout yesterday and said that there were 300 participants from different public and private department a well as NGOs whom were involved with the planting of the rubber trees.

“Programmes such as this will foster closer relationship between agencies and departments involved as well as educating them the importance of biodiversity and how human’s act can affect the environment.

“DBKU will also be implementing other beautification initiatives to create a greener and cleaner environment to give more comfort to road users and at the same time, giving good shading effect to the surrounding areas.

“DBKU will also be engaging the community to plant trees together in a mutual assist programme within this year and they are targeting to plant a total of 1,000 trees a year.

“I really hope that with tree planting activities like this, we are more prone to care for our environment in the future as it will not only provide us with a cool and comfortable environment but also serves to stabilise the temperature of the environment.

“By doing so we can also help to curb the global warming that is experienced by all of us globally,” said Rahman.
