KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has extended an invitation to all citizens to appreciate the significance and essence of Malaysia Day.

For this meaningful celebration, he announced that the chosen theme for Malaysia Day this year is ‘Malaysia MADANI: Tekad Perpaduan, Penuhi Harapan’, which was also selected for the National Day celebration in 2023.

“This theme signifies an effort to encourage all citizens to recognise the development of a prosperous nation with a culture of high civilisation and unity as the primary driving force in achieving success in the modern era.

“It is a call to all Malaysians to work together, with mutual respect, in any situation to build a bright future for the country.

“In Sarawak, the spirit of unity and mutual respect among the different races is paramount when presenting ideas and views to advance our society,” he expressed in his Malaysia Day message.

The ‘Segulai Sejalai’ slogan, he added, serves as the foundation for fostering mutual understanding so that people of all races and religions can equally benefit from the progress and prosperity of the nation.
“I sincerely hope and pray that Malaysia will continue to progress and step boldly forward with the spirit of national unity, so that the country continues to be looked up to and respected regionally and internationally.

“May Malaysia, in general, and Sarawak, in particular, continue to be protected by God and blessed with goodness and prosperity, and may all matters in developing Malaysia towards greater success be eased,” he remarked. He also expressed his gratitude for the celebration of

Malaysia Day 2023 at the national level, to be held in Kuching.

“Indeed, this year’s celebration is quite lively, and we, particularly the residents of Kuching, are very pleased to receive the visit of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and also friends from the Peninsular and Sabah.

“It is for us to remember and celebrate the historic moment of our homeland that occurred 60 years ago.
“It was at that time that an agreement was signed that united the two regions on the island of Borneo and Malaya, forming a sovereign and independent nation,” he recounted.
