Abang Johari breaks fast with Sarawak students in the peninsula

KUALA LUMPUR: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his wife Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang broke fast with some 400 Sarawak students studying in institutions of higher learning and guests in the peninsula last night (Apr 15).

Present at the ‘Majlis Sungkei Bersama Premier Abang Jo’ event were Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusuf and wife Datin Seri Ruziah Mohd Tahir, and Sarawak federal ministers and members of parliament and their wives.

Abang Johari also joined the guests for maghrib, isyak and terawih prayers during the event held at Four Seasons Hotel here.

Ramadan is an occasion of goodwill and charity with the students and children of Sarawakians in the peninsula receiving donations and duit raya from Yayasan Sarawak.

The contributions and duit raya were handed over by Taib Mahmud and Raghad, and Abang Johari and Juma’ani.

The students who received the contributions and duit raya were from Kolej Genius @ Pintar, and the children of Yayasan Sarawak, Kuala Lumpur office staff. Also receiving the contributions were some members of Persatuan Mualaf Johor, represented by chairman Effendi Abdullah.

Others present at the event, which also commemorated Sarawak’s 60 years of independence, were Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian and wife Datin Enn Ong.

Earlier on Friday (Apr 14), Taib Mahmud and Raghad broke fast with some 300 Sarawakians in the Klang Valley and joined the guests for tarawih prayers at the Berjaya Times Square Hotel.

Abang Johari and Juma’ani as well as federal and state Cabinet ministers attended the event.
