MIRI: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg has pointed out that the Sarawak government never reneges on its promises to deliver development projects to the people.

“My team and I in Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS)… we never reneged on our promises. When we announce projects for the people, we deliver. We are not “buruk siku” (promise breaker). Some might be implemented in stages and take time to execute, but we deliver. That’s the important thing,” he said during “Makan Tahun Perdana 2019” at Kampung Pintasan Tiris in Bekenu, yesterday.

Then, he announced an allocation of RM4-million for building a heritage building and RM25 million for infrastructure development in the village and Kampung Bulau, and upgrading a kindergarten in Niah.

“I’ve fulfilled my promises to the Kedayans … the construction of this heritage building which is in progress. It will benefit the community,” he said.

Also present at the function were Abang Johari’s deputy Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Utilities Minister Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, Sibuti MP Lukanisman Awang Sauni, Women, Family and Childhood Development Assistant Minister (also Bekenu assemblywoman and the function’s organising chairwoman) Rosey Yunus, Lambir assemblyman Ripin Lamat and Miri Resident Mastapa Julaihi.

Kampung Pintasan is about 50km from Miri and most of the people are Kedayans, nearly 3,000 of whom plus those from Brunei were at the function.

Yesterday was Abang Johari’s second time visit to Bekenu this month. Last week, during his first visit, he announced an allocation of RM5 million for building Bekenu’s waterfront.

It is, as he said, a part of the efforts to make Bekenu a better place.

“We want the rural areas to develop just like urban areas. We will not allow the rural areas to remain backward,” he said.

In her opening remarks, Rosey pointed out that the chief Minister’s visits showed that the state government did not forget the rural people.
