BINTULU: Minister in the Premier’s Department Datuk John Sikie Tayai has lauded Sarawak’s formidable unity, highlighting its pivotal role in driving developmental initiatives.

Sikie noted that the cohesive collaboration among diverse communities has facilitated the seamless execution of the government’s agenda, propelling Sarawak to become the third largest contributor to Malaysia’s Gross Domestic Products (GDP).

He expressed optimism about Sarawak’s potential to ascend to second place within the national economic landscape within the next two to three years.

Recognizing the pivotal role of the head of the local community leaders, Sikie stressed the need for them to serve as the linchpin in representing the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition.

“Tasked with unifying grassroots communities at the village and longhouse levels, local community leaders face a formidable challenge that requires equipping them with comprehensive knowledge and wisdom,” he said when speaking at the Bintulu Resident Office Raya, Gawai Dayak and Chinese New Year dinner gathering held at a leading hotel here last night (May 3).

In light of this, Sikie urged the Bintulu Resident’s Office and the Tatau Resident’s Office to enhance support by organising frequent workshops and courses.

“These initiatives aim to empower longhouse chiefs with the requisite skills and knowledge to effectively lead and unite their respective communities, thereby advancing Sarawak’s trajectory towards progress and development,” he concluded.

The event was attended by approximately 1,300 individuals representing diverse ethnic backgrounds.

Sikie also pledged a contribution amounting to RM30,000 to Tatau District Community Leaders Association (KMKK).

Also present were Bintulu Resident Nyurak Keti, Tatau OCPD DSP Jame Reis, Sarawak Administrative Officer (SAO) Long Jok and Pemanca Gerosen Jubin.
