KUCHING: Two mosques here, namely the Darul Ittihad Mosque at Simpang Tiga and Darul Barakah Mosque at Taman Satria Jaya BDC, will soon be redeveloped into a larger mosque to cater to the Muslim community in the two areas.

The bigger mosque will also deliver prayers in English.

Without disclosing the cost and when the works will begin, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the Sarawak government has acquired the land next to the Darul Ittihad Mosque for the redevelopment and extension.

“I also had requested the Islamic Department to deliver its Friday khutbah at this new mosque in English language.

“This is so that Muslims who are not Malay and those who are not fluent in Malay language can understand the khutbah,” he said when officiating at the closing ceremony of state-level Marhaban competition at Raia Hotel & Convention Centre Kuching here last night (Sept 25).
