Abdul Karim proposes upgrade of 15 sports facilities

THE Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development has put forward a proposal to upgrade and refurbish 15 existing sports facilities in Sarawak as part of the Mid-Term Review, aiming to foster the development of quality athletes.

During his ministerial winding-up speech at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) on yesterday, minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said that one of them is the refurbishment of the Petra Jaya Gasing Centre into a boxing or Muay Thai Centre, which is estimated to cost RM1 million.

“The Sarawak Stadium will undergo improvements amounting to RM10 million, while the Bintangor Sports Complex will receive upgrade works worth RM5 million. Additionally, the Matu Sports Complex (RM5 million), Pakan Sports Complex (RM3.5 million), Samarahan Sports Complex (RM3.5 million), Limbang Sports Complex, and Limbang Indoor Stadium (RM3.5 million) are also set to be upgraded,” he added.

He continued, “Other proposed upgrading and refurbishment projects include the Kapit Indoor Stadium, with a budget of RM2.5 million, the Petronas Sports Village in Miri (RM3 million), and the swimming pools in Kota Samarahan, Sarikei, Sri Aman, Kapit, and Limbang, each with an allocation of RM2 million.”

Abdul Karim also said that the Asajaya Sports Complex is also slated for improvement works, with an estimated cost of RM10 million.

“Meanwhile, my Ministry has also submitted several project proposals for districts that currently lack sports facilities,” he added.
