BINTULU: As many as 116 asnaf (needy) students in the constituency received donations from the PETRONAS Islamic Welfare Body (BAKIP) during the Bersama Kasih Ramadan programme held at the district mosque here on Wednesday (Apr 12).

The donation was handed over by Bintulu District education officer Samri Suhaili, in the presence of BAKIP chairman Ustaz Salleh Morshidi, Bintulu District Mosque Committee chairman and Anaq Vaie Bintulu Association (PAVB) chairman, Pandi Suhaili.

According to Salleh, the contribution was from zakat funds from Petronas employees.

“This is part of BAKIP’s continuous efforts to alleviate the burden and provide joy to underprivileged students so they can experience the joy of Ramadan and celebrate Aidilfitri this year,” he said.

Meanwhile, in his speech, Samri hoped that such programmes would continue in the future. This is because the Bintulu District Education Office needs strategic partners to succeed in the various programmes it organises.

“This is one of the circulars that urges us to establish good relationships and cooperation with parent-teacher associations and communities, including non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

“This cooperation will have a great impact on our children,” he added.

The BAKIP Bersama Kasih Ramadan programme is a joint effort of JAKIPP, the Bintulu District Education Office, BAKIP, the Bintulu District Mosque Committee, the Anaq Vaie Bintulu Association (PAVB), JAKSA, UPI, and Dakwah Islamiah Sekolah-Sekolah Cawangan Bintulu (PEKDIS).
