PUTRAJAYA: Cambodia is confident that all of its facilities and venues are ready for the 2023 SEA Games in Phnom Penh, which will kick off from May 5-17.

Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Special Envoy of the National Committee of Cambodia SEA Games Organising Committee (CAMSOC) Hor Sarun said this includes its sports villages which are set to accommodate almost 10,000 athletes for the biennial multi-sports games.

“Everything is good. We are ready and proud to host the 2023 SEA Games,” he told reporters after the 32nd SEA Games Torch Relay Malaysian edition here today.

Also present were Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Cambodia to Malaysia, Ouk Chandara; Youth and Sports Minister, Hannah Yeoh and Olympic Council of Malaysia deputy president, Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin.

Sarun also invited all Malaysians to come and support all athletes around the region as all tickets for both locals and foreigners are free, as announced by Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, recently.

He said Malaysia was the fifth country to host the torch relay and will head to Singapore next after it was carried out in Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia and Timor Leste since last March 21.

Meanwhile, Hannah who joined the torch relay with around 250 participants earlier, expressed confidence that Cambodia’s preparations are well underway before they host the Games for the first time, next month.

“The torch relay also serves as a symbol of our warm welcome for the Cambodian delegation here in Putrajaya,” she said.– BERNAMA
