KOTA SAMARAHAN: Two alternative roads being built to alleviate traffic congestion from Kota Samarahan to Kuching are expected to be completed next year.

Kota Samarahan MP Datuk Rubiah Wang said the two alternative roads are from Jalan Datuk Mohd Musa, Kota Samarahan to Kota Sentosa while the second road is through the coastal road from Kampung Baru roundabout to the Sejingkat area.

“We are well aware that the Kota Samarahan area is facing heavy traffic congestion issues.

“Although the government has widened the road from two lanes to four lanes and now to six lanes, the issue of traffic congestion still persists. Hence, the government has plans to provide two alternative routes,” she said.

Rubiah who is also Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development said this during the Stakan assemblyman Datuk Hamzah Brahim Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house at the Stakan Service Centre, here on Sunday.

Elaborating, Rubiah said these roads are supposed to be completed this year.

“But due to contractor issues and some technical problems, we have re-tendered this project and now it has started.

“With that, the completion of these alternative routes are expected next year, God willing,” she said.

Rubiah added if both roads are completed within the time frame, the issue of traffic congestion can be effectively tackled.
