KUCHING: Amanda Kho Jiun Ying, a Primary 5 student of Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Chung Hua Pujut, Miri took home RM3,000 worth of scholarship prize after she emerged as the first prize winner (student category) of “Program Tajaan Biasiswa: #SayaSihat bersama Yeo’s”.
She received the items in a scholarship presentation ceremony at SJK Chung Hua No.5’s school hall in Jalan Mendu here, yesterday.
Second placing with scholarship prize worth RM2,000 went to Eileen Chan Jia Syn of SJK Chung Hua No.5, Kuching while third placing with scholarship prizes of RM1,000 each went to Wee Jing Fang of SJKC Chung Hua, Miri; Chin Jing Xuan of SJK Chung Hua Batu 10, Kuching and Nathan Chai Jian Min of SJK Chung Hua No.2, Kuching.
For the school category, SJK Chung Hua No.5, Kuching was named as the winner with the highest percentage of students’ participation by receiving scholarship prize worth RM3,000.
In second place was SJK Chung Hua Miri winning a scholarship prize of RM2,000.
SJKC Chung Hua Pujut, Miri; SJK Chung Hua Siburan and SJK Chung Hua Batu 10, Kuching were placed third and each took home the scholarship prize worth RM1,000 each.
Approximately 500 primary schools throughout Malaysia participated in ‘Program Tajaan Biasiswa: #SayaSihat bersama Yeo’s’. Among these were SJKC Tampoi, Johor; SK Putrajaya Presint 11 (1); SK Bukit Kuchai, Selangor; SK Sultan Sulaiman 2, Terengganu; SJKC Chung Hua Pujut, Miri; SJK Chung Hua No.5, Kuching and many more.
Present to grace the ceremony was Deputy Divisional Education of Kuching Chen Fei Ming accompanied by Senior Manager (Corporate Communication) of Yeo’s Joe Wong,Yeo’s Assistant Vice President of Sales (East Malaysia) Billy Chin, its Sales Manager Tay Boon Huat and Principal of SJK Chung Hua No.5 Chin Mui Ling.
Earlier, Wong in his opening remarks stated that this five-month programme had been ongoing from March 13 until August 15 this year.
“It is a corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative by Yeo Hiap Seng (Malaysia) Berhad (Yeo’s), a leading food and beverage company and approved by Ministry of Education.
“The main objective behind this national level programme is to provide an opportunity for our children in Malaysia to showcase their proficiency in language while fostering their creativity through writing short essays on healthy eating and lifestyle.
“The programme also carries an intention parallel to the government’s vision in urging the Malaysian community to adapt a healthy and active lifestyle,” explained Wong.
He added, they were thrilled when the campaign received a welcoming response, judging from the big number of participations.
“The programme has proven itself to be impactful for both primary school teachers and students in urging them to adapt to a healthy eating plan while nurturing the habit of recycling resources such as Yeo’s packets,” he said.
Meanwhile, Chen in his speech expressed his gratitude to Yeo’s as the programme had provided school children the opportunities to showcase their inner creativity and nurture their critical thinking skills through writing short essays.
Besides, he said, these children were exposed to the importance of caring for the environment through the practice of collecting and recycling Yeo’s packets.
Also present at the event was Chairman of Management Board of SJK Chung Hua No.1 to 6 Wong Tiong Hook.
