Kuching club can win Langkawi title – Karim

KUCHING: Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports, Datuk Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah is optimistic that representatives from Sarawak ‘Kuching Dragon Boat Club’ will be able to create a surprise and win the title of the International Dragon Boat Race, Langkawi 2017 which will be held from July 28 to 29.

The intensive preparation accompanied by the high spirit of the squad is an additional factor to realise their dream.

“Our big hopes of seeing this club (Kuching Dragon Boat Club) can make a surprise in the prestigious race.

“With the good preparation done besides teamwork and cooperation between the paddlers, their quest to win the title will expectedly be achieved,” said Datuk Haji Abdul Karim at a press conference in his office recently.

Earlier on, the state flag was handed over to the club, which was also attended by Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Ministry deputy secretary, Jee Chin Fu.

Meanwhile, Kuching Dragon Boat team manager, Chew Kim Soon also exuded optimistism that the club can achieve the mission.

According to him, although no one knows the strength of their opponents who will participate in the race but with the buoyant spirit of the team it will be able to achieve the mission to win the championship.

He added that it was the club’s first appearance in the world-class race.
