MUKAH: The r e s ident s o f Kampung Litong, here, want the former Samarahan Resident, Datu Dr Sulaiman Haji Husaini, to be the candidate for Mukah for the forth-coming 14th General Election(PRU14).
Their support was shown through a peaceful gathering held outside the community hall of the village which is located on the opposite bank of Mukah Town, on Thursday morning. According to the spokesman, Hanapi Bin Anyut, who led about 30 people at the event, they were appealing to the Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, to nominate Sulaiman at the election which will be held anytime from now.
“I represent the residents of this village, hereby, want to appeal to the YAB Chief Minister, who is also the State Barisan Nasional (BN) Chairman cum State Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Chairman, to choose and nominate a local born, Datu Dr Sulaiman, to be the candidate for BN/PBB in Mukah for the coming Parliamentary election PRU14,” he said. He added that Sulaiman, with wealth of experiences, besides being a former Resident, was also holding senior post in Kuching, as Dalat District Officer, as Administrative Officer in Engkilili, Lawas and Belawai and in several welfare bodies.
“Asa local born, who sits low and stands tall with us, we believe he could dive into the problem and understands the nerves of the peoples who hunger for change, be it in term of infrastructure or human development. We want a people’s representative who voice out the needs of the people in the Parliamentary area and not just filling the seat at the parliament,” explained Hanapi.
Besides Sulaiman’s wealth of experiences as mentioned, Hanapi reiterated that Sulaiman is also very fluent in his mother tongue, Melanau and Iban, and of course the official languages, Bahasa Melayu and English.
“Undeniably, there is development in Mukah and Dalat, but, still a lot yet to be enjoyed by the loca,l especially the People’s Economy, and in the area of Human Development including job opportunities for the youths and so forth. We will double the effort to ensure the candidate we choose win that much anticipated election. Hence, we hope the leadership would consider our petition,” he disclosed.
