BETONG: Over 200 stray dogs are targeted during the fifth phase of anti-Rabies operations here from July 31 to August 1.

Stray dogs are the main focus throughout the operation because of growing concern that they could be rabid or carriers of rabies.

Therefore, community representatives in each area should identify stray dogs for adoption and subsequent vaccination.

In a briefing on the role of ‘pointers’ at Betong District Office yesterday, nearly 60 elected community leaders were told about their respective roles.

During the briefing, Betong District Officer Sofhi Jebal said rabies is a very dangerous disease.

“Thus, the commitment of all parties, especially the appointed community leaders, was crucial to curb the rabies outbreak.

“I hope the fifth phase of the anti-rabies operations around Betong, Pusa and Spaoh and Debak district would go well,” he said.

He warned that all pointers should always follow the instructions of their team leaders to prevent any unfortunate happening.
