SIBU: The mobile counter set up in Bintulu and Miri is a good opportunity for ex-servicemen to apply for many of the welfare benefits provided by the government.

The Sarawak Malaysian Armed Forces Veteran Association urges members and non-members to visit these counters. The counter in Miri is open from 2pm on Nov 9 at Kelab Gymkhana while the one in Bintulu opens from 9am on Nov 10 at the conference room of the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday, president Francis Yeo said the association would assist the targeted group to apply for benefits such as the national service aid and Bantuan Sara Hidup “if they are not yet recipients.”

He disclosed that it was a challenge to meet ex-servicemen as many resided in the outskirts of town. “With this counter, it is easier as they can just come to us.”

“For those who are not members yet, they can register at the mobile counter,” Yeo added.

“All they need to do is to bring a photocopy of their identity card, including that of their wife, three copies of passport-sized photos, RM20 for life membership fee and RM85 for corporate uniform.”

The association has about 300 members in Miri and Bintulu.
