SRI AMAN: Community leaders should not be afraid to attend Pakatan Harapan (PH) functions. Lubok Antu MP Jugah Muyang said the Sarawak government should not prevent them from attending any functions organised by PH as it would be detrimental to the people.

“If the Sarawak government continues to discourage them from attending our functions, it will hurt the people.

“If they receive good service, there is no reason to worry
that their support will shift,” Jugah said when opening a pre-Gawai dinner at Rumah Laham, Bangkong Lachau near here yesterday.

Jugah said he confirmed that the federal government had never stopped paying allowances to community leaders and elders.

“After PH took over the federal government, we still pay 70 percent of the community leaders’ allowance and maybe next year it will increase.

“But the payment is conditional and community leaders should be appointed by the villagers, not on a political basis,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sri Aman’s Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) coordinator, Norina Umoi Utot, said Sarawak PKR
should stand firm and strengthen the struggle to defend the rights of the people in the state.

He also urged PKR members to remain loyal to the party’s struggles.

“PKR does not choose race and religion in its struggle to defend the rights of the people of the state.

“Not only do we represent the rights of Dayak, Iban, Orang Ulu, Kayan, Kenyah and Penan but we also fight for the rights of the Malays and Chinese as well.

“PKR also ensures that the rights of every Sarawakian are not eroded by the new federal government under Pakatan Harapan,” he pointed out.

During the event, Norina also donated two wheelchairs to two needy residents. Also present at the event were Lubok Antu district education officer James Andrew Janggi, Tuai Rumah Laham and Head of Sri Aman Parliamentary Constituency Centre, Yen Jebeni.
