KUCHING: Regarding a one-week ultimatum given by Bersatu Youth (Armada) to Sungai Pelek assemblyman Ronnie Liu for his criticisms of Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Democratic Action Party (DAP) disciplinary committee chairman Chong Chieng Jen described it as most unbecoming and immature.

Liu’s ‘Mahathir: The Paper Tiger’ that was published in Malaysiakini and another statement “Ronnie Liu takes a swipe at Dr M, says Pakatan will still be fine without Bersatu” was reported by The Star last Oct 22.

Armada also issued a threat, saying that if the ultimatum was not met, they would freely attack DAP leaders.

Chong said the ultimatum was counter-productive to a united Pakatan Harapan government.

“As the disciplinary committee chairman, I reiterate that DAP is a party of discipline and will not compromise on any act of indiscipline among our members,” he said.

“We have a high standard of discipline and our internal procedure to enforce such discipline. But no one should dictate the manner and timeframe involved for us to discipline our members,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Armada chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, in his Facebook post last Wednesday, labelled Liu’s remarks as “rude”, and “disrespectful to the harmony within Pakatan Harapan”.

Saddiq was also reported as saying that “If DAP does not do anything, Armada will freely attack DAP, including its top leadership”.

To this, Chong said, “Let’s channel our energy and effort to deliver the reforms which we have promised to make Malaysia a better and stronger country instead of being distracted by indiscipline and immaturity within the Pakatan Harapan coalition.”
