BINTULU: Some 50 members of a Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) of Ulu Nyalau recently held a work party to restore a dilapidated house here.

Samalaju assemblyman Majang Renggi led the work party and also paid for the building materials.

The stilted wooden house belonging to 65-year-old Johani Damit is about 40 years old with many parts requiring either repair or replacement.

Also present to lend a hand during the “gotong-royong” were members from local non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and the Samalaju Service Centre.

Village chief Tasim Sabtu praised Majang for organising the work party and for footing the cost of the building materials.

He said the project was aimed at promoting the spirit of caring and sharing to revive the gradually dying spirit of “gotong-royong” among the locals.
