SARATOK: Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) such as the Indai Tai Fitness Club (ITFC) deserves praise as they are able to promote a healthy lifestyle among the community here.

Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri said the national morbidity survey conducted several years ago reported that as many as 1.7 million Malaysians were at risk of developing high blood pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol.

“From the survey, it was also found that one-fifth of Malaysians suffer from diabetes, three-tenths have high blood pressure, and four-tenths have high cholesterol.

“Therefore, I am very excited that ITFC Saratok is actively promoting health through exercise activities.

“I believe this can raise awareness of the importance of a healthy lifestyle to prevent chronic diseases,” he said at the ITFC Saratok annual dinner here on Tuesday (May 9).

Mohamad also contributed RM5,000 for the club’s activities.

“I understand that the club members come from various ethnic groups, and this is a positive thing because it not only focuses on health, but also enhances the spirit of unity, thus fostering the practice of harmony among the diverse ethnic groups in Sarawak.
