SIBU: The Sacred Heart School Old Students’ Association (SHOSA) presented Golden Knight Award to three members for their unparalleled contributions to Sacred Heart Secondary School (SHS) over the last two decades.

The recipients were Tan Sri Clement Hii, Temenggong Datuk Vincent Lau and Dr Gregory Hii and they were lauded for their dedicated leadership, perseverance and generosity, which enabled the school to be what it is today.

SHOSA in a statement said that both Vincent Lau and Gregory Hii were recognised for assuming leadership in the Sacred Heart School Re-Development Committee, as chairman and secretary respectively, upon the passing of yet another SHS legend Datuk Robert Lau Hoi Chew in 2010.

“At that time the school, which underwent a massive transformation in 2004, was due for further upgrading. The sudden passing of Datuk Robert Lau left a void that was too momentous to fill.

“Lesser men would have buckled just by the thought of the immense work that laid ahead. Yet both Lau and Hii from the Class of 1966, valiantly stepped up and completed all items on the school’s wish list,” said the statement.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the completion of the school’s transformation and the continuing effort to provide the best possible environment for students and teachers of SHS.

Meanwhile Clement Hii, from the Class of 1975, is yet another legend as he is celebrated by SHOSA for his dedication in inspiring students and teachers, over the last twenty years.

“Since 2002, without fail, he provided all the prizes and cash incentives for the annual awards ceremony.

“He also gave readily whenever the school was hard pressed to pay for some of its needs. In April 2023 when SHS was hit hard by a freak storm, he was amongst the first to reach out to the School and lent a mighty helping hand. To-date it is estimated that he has given more than RM2 million to help his alma mater,” the statement said.

Presenting the awards on behalf of SHOSA were its president, Penghulu Yong King Sung, immediate past president of SHOSA Datuk Hii Chang Kee and past president Robert Lau Hui Yew.
