KUCHING: By inviting everyone to work as a team for the sake of national harmony, and move towards building consensus, is a great start to Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s term as Prime Minister, says Sarawak Patriots Association (SPA).
“His promise to get Malaysia out of the health and economic crisis in one Big Malaysia Family. Hence, we hope that Malaysia has a new start with new hope, a new goal, and a new vision.
“We anticipate him as a leader for every Malaysian, irrespective of race, religion and background,” said SPA chairman Datuk Dr John Lau Pang Heng.
He also anticipated the reformations in the coming months under Ismail Sabri, including returning the MA63 rights and privileges to Sarawak without any more delay.
“In addition, we also hope that he expedites the implementation of Undi18 as well as implement automatic voter registration.
“Along the line, we are also looking forward to him educating the voters on their rights and responsibilities to elect responsible leaders to represent them in state assemblies and Parliament.”
Lau also mentioned that he hoped under Ismail Sabri’s leadership, the culture of MPs and assemblymen crossing to other parties would stop.
“It breeds greed, moral decay and deteriorates communal values. Let the people be the judge.
“We also wish that he prohibits the caretaker government from using government vehicles, equipment, and public properties during an election as well as allocate development budget for each constituency irrespective of party-line.”
On top of all, he stated, SPA would like to see the new leadership have specific strategies to combat Covid-19 and stop fighting for positions.
“SPA recommends that the income tax year of assessment for 2021 be exempted. This is due to many being affected by the pandemic, unemployment and loss of income.”
