MIRI: Marine police foiled an attempt by a 28-year-old man to smuggle 300 litres of diesel in a van here yesterday.
The man was arrested at about 10.30am in an operation codenamed Ops Contraband after he was intercepted at Jalan Krokop Utama, in front of SJK Chung Hua.
Miri police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the van driver admitted transporting 12 jerry cans of diesel worth about RM16,000 in his van.
“The van driver failed to provide the relevant licence or permit from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) when asked to,” said Alexson in a statement.
The confiscated items were sent to KPDNHEP for further action, he said.
