KOTA SAMARAHAN: Little would Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin have expected that his visit to a single mother here would motivate her son to continue to do well in his education.
Mohammad Azuwan Hassan, 26 – a master's programme student from the Faculty of Science and Technology Resources in Unimas – said Muhyiddin's visit gave him the spirit and motivation to continue to excel in his studies. He has two years left to finish his studies.
“He (Muhyiddin) is a people-centric person and his willingness to go down to the ground to visit us has really touched us.
“It has opened my eyes on how concerned he is towards the problems faced by the people in Sarawak,” he said.
The prime minister met several residents at Kampung Sindang Baru during the Ziarah Prihatin programme here today (April 2).
Meanwhile, Mohammad Azuwan’s mother Selha Slet, 68, who lives with her five children, said she is so happy to have met Muhyiddin.
“Before this, I always saw our prime minister on television, but now I am so glad to be able to meet him in person for the first time.
“This will be the sweetest memory for me as the prime minister himself came here to visit our home,” she said.
Selha does not work as she needs to take care of her grandchildren and a child with disabilities.
She receives assistance such as the Senior Citizen Assistance of RM500 and Disability Allowance of RM450 per month.
Among those present were Muhyiddin’s wife Puan Sri Noorainee Abdul Rahman, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Minister of Welfare, Community, Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, Kota Samarahan MP Rubiah Wang, and Sarawak Social Welfare Department director Noriah Ahmad.
