Local jailed seven months for meth, nimetazepam possession

KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here sentenced a local man to seven months in prison for possessing 0.17g of methamphetamine and 0.03g of nimetazepam in October last year

Mohamad Shaffieudin Mohamad Lihee, 24, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali to two charges framed under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 12(3) of the same Act for possession of prohibited drugs.

If convicted, it carries a fine up to RM100,000 or imprisonment up to five years.

For the first charge, Magistrate Syarifah sentenced him to seven months in prison, and five months in prison for the second charge.

Magistrate Syarifah also ordered him to serve the prison sentences concurrently effective today (Mar 21).

He committed the offences by the roadside at Lorong Shun Lee in Padawan around 4.25pm on Oct 17 last year.

According to the case facts, a police team arrested a suspicious man by the roadside of Lorong Shun Lee for suspected involvement in drug abuse activities.

Inspections led to Shaffieudin handing over a plastic packet containing suspected syabu and a tin strip containing seven Erimin pills, to the police.

Reports from the Chemistry Department confirmed that the seized items were metamphetamine drugs weighing 0.17g and nimetazepam weighing 0.03g.

Insp Ammarsoffi Yusoff prosecuted the case, while Shaffieudin was unrepresented by counsel.
