SIBU: Enforcement agencies in Sarawak have been urged to conduct more integrated operations for effective enforcement.

Sarawak Federal Secretary Datuk Ahmad Nadzri Mohd Hassan said these operations should not be limited to festive seasons but should be conducted periodically.

Such actions can lead to the detection and response to various offences within the scope of their respective jurisdictions, he said.

“For example, JPJ can take action against vehicle licensing and driver licensing offences; the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) can address the misuse of prohibited goods, while the Immigration Department can deal with the entry of foreigners without valid documents.

“This integrated operation conducted at Jalan Oya last night (Nov 7), is a prime example of how these operations should be carried out,” he said when met by reporters.

The ongoing operation, which also involves the Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department, will continue throughout Sarawak until Nov 30.

During last night’s operation, JPJ issued a total of 83 notices for various traffic offences such as driving without road tax, expired road tax, absence of a driving licence, expired driving licence, and technical violations such as the installation of HID headlights and licence plates not following specifications.

Simultaneously, the Immigration Department arrested three foreigners — two women and a man for offences under Section 15(1)(c) and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155).

AADK Sibu also detained three local men who tested positive for syabu.

Also present were Sarawak JPJ director Norizan Jili, Sarawak Immigration Department director Abang Halim Abang Naili and Sarawak AADK director Abdul Hamediee Ibrahim.
