KUCHING: Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii yesterday paid a visit to an accident victim at Sarawak General Hospital here.

The woman, 26, who is pregnant, is now paralysed but thankfully, her baby was not harmed although doctors are monitoring until delivery.

“I was alerted to her condition and the financial needs of the family, especially to purchase the required medical equipment for treatment and recovery.

“Thus I donated a special lightweight detachable wheelchair and a commode chair on top of some financial contribution to help her through the whole process,” said Dr Yii.

He related that he received a message from the patient’s in-laws on social media informing him how the patient, who graduated as an electrical engineer, was always cheerful, kind and active, and often involved in mountain climbing and other sports before the unfortunate accident.

She and her husband were looking forward to celebrating their first wedding anniversary at the end of the month on top of expecting the birth of their first child soon.

“However, due to the injury, there will be a lot of adjustments needed to her lifestyle, including the responsibility of raising her child.

“It may be a long journey of recovery ahead, but I am glad she is in good spirits and she has a team of dedicated doctors, nurses, physios and also family members that are supporting her through it all,” he said.

Dr Yii added that the DAP office will continue to monitor their situation, and the needs of the public whether in the hospital or outside.

He said they would try their best to meet the needs of “our community as well as to build a caring community here in Kuching”.
